Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to launch the Creta EV, the company's first mass-market EV in India, by January 2025.
Positioned as a contender beneath the Kona Electric, the Creta EV will directly compete with the MG ZS EV as well as the upcoming Tata Curvv EV and Maruti eVX. Currently undergoing rigorous testing in India, the Creta EV's production will commence by the end of this year.
Powered by a 45 kWh battery pack and sharing its electric motor with the base model of the latest Kona EV, the Creta EV is anticipated to deliver 138 bhp and 255 Nm of torque from its front-mounted electric motor.
As seen in spy shots, the Creta EV will resemble the new combustion-engined Creta while introducing distinct features like a closed-off 'grille' and a front-mounted charging port similar to the Kona Electric.Following the Creta EV, Hyundai plans to introduce a mass-market compact EV to the Indian market by 2026, though information regarding this second EV remains undisclosed.
